Our services

Drop-ins

We regularly host socialization, discussion, education and skill-building evening activities for 2SLGBTQIA+ youth aged 14 to 30.

Jeunesse Lambda is available in person every Tuesday (4pm-7pm), Friday (4pm-9pm) and Saturday (12pm-6pm) at the Asterisk located at 1575 Atateken Street, H2L 3L4, in Montreal - Tio'tia:ke. Public transportation tickets (STM), risk-reduction material (condoms, dental dams, lube, gloves, needles), snacks and a micro-wave are available for free in the space. It’s also possible to borrow books from our LGBTQ+ themed library.

Active listening

We offer inclusive and affirmative active listening sessions. Our employee (Maxim·e), our board members and volunteers are all 2SLGBTQIA+ people, sensitive to the realities of our communities and their intersections with other experiences and oppressions, and knowledgeable about local resources they can refer you to. We also have a commissioner of oaths able to swear in documents for name and gender marker changes for free. Currently (as of January 2022), considering the sanitary situation, all meetings are held online (Zoom, phone or other).

To take an appointment, write to Maxim·e (iel/they/them) : intervention@jeunesselambda.com

Trans health

In addition to our gender-affirming gear accessibility program, we regularly organize free inclusive haircut days. We also offer our Transversal Health program in the context of which we pair queer youths with mental health professionals and cover the cost of 5 sessions. This does include appointments to obtain letters of support for access to HRT or gender affirmation surgeries. We also keep a list of queer/trans-affirming mental health professionals.

For any request, write to Max-e (iel - they/them) : admin@jeunesselambda.com

F.A.Q

How many people attend the events on average?

Tuesdays and Saturdays are often quieter, while Fridays can be much busier and sometimes overwhelming. Youths who want to withdraw to calm down can use our courtyard or listening room. We have about 10-15 youths on Tuesdays, 30-40 on Fridays, and 5-10 on Saturdays. On average, but it can vary from week to week. On Fridays, a meal is served around 5:30pm and the activity starts around 6pm.

How do I know if Jeunesse Lambda is suitable for me?

The best way to find out is to come and see for yourself! If you’d like to meet youths in your community and chat about topics of interest to you in a warm and welcoming environment, we encourage you to come see us!

What are the rules I have to follow at Jeunesse Lambda?

Jeunesse Lambda is a caring, inclusive, safe(r) space based on respect and consent. We have a more detailed code of conduct participants (read all about it here!) that volunteers, interns and employees are expected to follow.

How can I get involved with Jeunesse Lambda?

Whether it's helping out with the drop-ins (welcoming people, meals, workshops active listening), our large scale events (seasonal bals, birthdays, etc) or moderating the Discord, let us know if you'd like to lend a hand! If you're interested in admin and care about the organization, we often have positions available on our Board!

If you’d like to get involved without joining the board, you can also register as a volunteer. In order to do so, you can write to Lou (they/them) : intervention@jeunesselambda.com

What is a typical event like?

On Tuesdays and Fridays, participants arrive at 4:00 pm. On Saturdays, participants arrive at noon. It is possible to come in earlier and help us prepare the meal on fridays. Meals are typically served around 5:00pm and activities usually start at 6:00 pm. It is always possible to not participate and socialize in the space. We encourage everyone to do their own dishes and pick up after themselves to take care of the shared space. We start wrapping up the evening and prepare departures around 8:45 pm. Often, participants organize an outing afterwards, such as going to the Starbucks in the Village.
