Land acknowledgement

Lambda Youth recognizes that we are located on stolen and unceded lands which traditionally belong to indigenous peoples and currently on Kanien'kehá:ka (Mohawk) territory. Our offices and sole point of service is located in Tio'tia:ke (Montreal), which has long been recognized as a place of meeting, gathering and exchange between nations. It is in a spirit of gratitude, recognition and solidarity that we wish to provide our services.

We wish to acknowledge the role of colonization in the establishment of an oppressive mode of social organization based, among other things, on racism, heteronormativity and cisnormativity. We recognize the current and historical oppression experienced by Two-Spirit and/or LGBTQIA+ Native People and by People of Color people of sexual and gender diversity as a whole.

In this regard, we also want to acknowledge that thousands of African-descendant people have been enslaved, displaced and judicialised on this same territory. The presence of Black Canadian communities is directly linked to the white supremacy and capitalism that motivated American, African and Caribbean colonization by European nations.

We thank all BIPOC (Black, Indigenous and People of Color) who have contributed to the organization's collective reflections on inclusion, anti-racism and decolonization. We acknowledge the activist and emotional labour of these individuals and the possible personal burnout that can be associated with exposing unconscious biases and power structures within community organizations.

Finally, we encourage our members and partners to take the time to learn about the history, struggles, and demands of the indigenous and Afro-descendant peoples who share the territories we occupy.

We are working hard to improve our anti-racist and decolonial practices through training and policy development within our team. We welcome any suggestions or comments on how to improve them.
